Over zdnet.com they have been looking at code of Googles GMail and found some interesting stuff mainly it may look like they are going to start doing domain hosting email.

Saw the news about this today Russ - I like the idea - google giving us email accounts for free with our own domain names intact sounds attractive.
We would have issues with security but we all know email is inherrantly insecure… and the worst place for security within a WAN containng High Schools/ Colleges/ Public Access points - IMHO.
Email is always insecure and you are always trust a third party even if you your own email servers chances are that person sending it to doesn’t.
But I suppose an email service hosted by Google is no different then if had hosted by LEA.
Our lea offers hosting service and while had few bugs with web interface it has been not to bad. But at end of day no matter how much lea or any small organisation tries they can not provide backend like Google can.
At end of day it is rumoured that Goggle have one of biggest server setups in world (no one knows for sure as info is kept secret so it is guess work and speculation on little information that does get leaked out)
