VLE, PLE, MLE - More acronyms than you can shake a stick at..
This month I will be mostly travelling…
This month seems like I am spending lot time travelling (now my better half might say that is a good thing) while I don’t mind travelling worst it being cut of with no internet access on trains why cant train operators roll out more wi-fi on their trains.
I’m currently trying to do some background reading about Personal Learning Environments (PLE) mainly as I am due down at Blog.ac.uk Conference on Friday quote from official conference document.
“There is currently a thriving Web 2.0 community of experts developing in the UK. However, generalist e-learning and ILT events continue to focus (if at all) on introductory level demonstrations and workshops. Advanced practitioners are not well supported, although unofficial networks and collaborative projects are taking place. This event gives people working in an educational context familiar with web 2.0 technologies the opportunity to meet and develop their ideas, and to contribute their expertise to the creation of the material outputs.
Significantly, the invited participants will come from across the sector and spectrum of ILT: technicians, developers, managers, administrators, educational technologists, policy makers, researchers, academics and teachers – working with all age groups in a broad variety of settings. ”
Now god don’t I feel like a fraud when get people like Stephen Downes attending who in terms of educational thought and ideas is light years ahead of me.
At moment lot is coming out in terms of virtual learning environments (VLE) and managed learning environments (MLE) mainly due to government initiative to get VLE used in every secondary school by 2008. The idea of personalised learning, VLE, MLE and PLE are exciting and bring great ideas and opportunities to make really big difference to how subjects are taught in schools in the future.
